About our lessons:

What ages do you teach?
We teach ages 4+. If you have a child under 4 years old we recommend attending classes at Kids Music Company to build a good foundation for instrumental tuition when they are slightly older. If you are not sure whether your child is physically ready to begin an instrument, contact us to discuss the possibilities. Most instruments are available in smaller sizes for younger children.

How much are lessons?
Our price range is $25.50-$49.50/30 mins (including GST). Our teachers are all different rates as they have differing qualifications and experience. Please contact us for specific pricing information.

Do you operate according to school terms?
Yes. Regular lessons take place within the public school term, please see our term dates. Holiday lessons are available by arrangement.

Do you have a lesson policy?
Yes, to be accepted into the studio you must agree to our Lesson Policy.

How about exams?
We offer tuition in all the major examination boards: ABRSM, Trinity/Guildhall, Rockschool, NZMEB and NCEA. Students are not required to sit an exam each year, but they can be useful goals along the way.

What performance opportunities do you offer?
We hold multiple soiree concerts each term open to all students and have extra opportunities for exam students to help them maximise their mark. Performance is a skill which needs practice, just like anything else! We give our students over 10 opportunities a year to perform in-front of a friendly audience. These concerts are fun and have a variety of instruments and we also include teacher performances to help inspire our students!

Can I meet the teacher before signing up to a term of lessons?
Yes, absolutely. Most people have a no-obligation trial lesson to see if the student likes the teacher and then we go from there.

Can we book holiday lessons?
Yes, most teachers are available for holiday lessons.

Can you come to my home?
Yes, some teachers are able to travel to your home (travel fees apply).

Are casual lessons available?
Yes, but lessons must be paid in advance and are not always available.

Do I need an acoustic piano at home to learn piano?
Ideally, yes. An acoustic piano has a different feel to a digital piano and the higher you progress, the more essential it is to have an acoustic piano. However, many students begin on electric pianos/keyboards and then parents invest in an acoustic piano once the student has shown commitment to the instrument.

Do you offer group lessons?
Not for instrumental tuition. Lessons are strictly one-to-one. However we have some group options for theory.

Do I need to learn music theory?
Yes, we require all students to learn some form of music theory. Students can choose either the ABRSM/Trinity or Rockschool syllabus depending on their needs.
